I have been visiting The Cook’s Tale for at least eight years now and I always have a wonderful experience. The food is simply delicious! It's fine dining quality at a mid-range price. If you are able to take advantage of one of their monthly deals, it's insanely good value for money. The service has always been very attentive. As a vegetarian I love the quantity and variety of vegetarian dishes - it's clear they aren't some afterthought. Something else that I really appreciate about The Cook’s Tale is that unlike many other restaurants in a similar price range they don't automatically add gratuity to the bill, it's left to you to decide how much you want to tip. If you are considering visiting The Cook’s Tale, stop thinking and go now! You won't regret it.

We had a wonderful lunch at The Cook's Tale Restaurant in Canterbury! As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by Asher, our host, who was friendly, welcoming, and very knowledgeable about the menu. He made sure our dietary requirements were carefully addressed and guided us through the options. We opted for the Meat and Vegetarian Thali, and both were absolutely delicious — full of vibrant flavors and beautifully presented. What truly stood out was the exceptional service. During our meal, Chef Alfie came over to check on us, asking if we were enjoying our food and if we had any feedback. It was a lovely personal touch that made the experience even more memorable. The restaurant itself had a cosy, festive atmosphere, with Christmas decorations adding a warm touch to the environment. Overall, a fantastic dining experience, with excellent food, great service, and a welcoming ambience. Highly recommended!

Wonderful cuisine with amazing flavours and loads of tasty surprises. If you want a 5 star experience don't forget to book well in advance. Knowledgeable and friendly staff complete the experience. Not your average spice house. One of the best I have ever tasted. Enjoy !!

My husband and I booked for the Indian high tea. It was on an offer and we love high tea, so we figured we would try it. It was all so amazing. There was a tone of variety of both sweet and savoury and the masala chai tea we got was very nice. The service was quick and attentive. Such a fun and unique twist- our favourite was the spiced chocolate cake and the potato sandwich. We cleaned our plates!

We have dined here for a special occasion. The fire place was on and it added to overall atmosphere. We went for a longer menu. It was one of the best meals of our lives. Especially the lobster was just amazing. Every little piece was perfectly executed and balanced. Oysters were delicious as well. And the wine selection is very extensive.

What an amazing culinary experience! Excellent Food! Excellent Service! Excellent Value! £45 for the set menu which ended up being six courses, every course cooked and presented to perfection! Best ever dining experience! Thank you 🙏🏻

An incredible experience, all round. The service, food and atmosphere were outstanding. I love the fact that this restaurant doesn't have a 'stuffy' vibe. It's top class but in a relaxed way. Will definitely be going back.

The food was exceptional as was the wine selection which included a number of English vineyards. We chose the â la carte menu and were very pleased with the choices. I suppose the only comment we would make is that it's basically a pub albeit an elevated one and the service reflects that. Which doesn't mean that anyone was rude - far from it - but there was a fair bit of shouting and loud talking in/out of the kitchen and up/down the bar. My expectation when paying £75pp is that the staff would perhaps be a little more circumspect but in no way did it detract from the absolutely amazing food.

We visited here for lunch and wasn't disappointed. The food was lovely and reasonably priced, generous proportions. The staff were very friendy and made us feel welcome. The interior was spacious and comfortable with a nice lit fire to keep warm beside. The garden is huge and I imagine it's nice sitting out there in the summer.

we came to the pub for a meal with family for a celebration. It was quiet initially but soon got very busy. I had a half pint of prawns, very tasty and plenty of them followed by 1/4 rack of ribs. I was lucky as mine fell off the bone, my husband wasnt quite so lucky, but our dog did well out of it. The onion rings & chips were lovely and lots of them, we were all to full for dessert.

Lovely pub for dinner with family. The staff were polite and helpful, the garden charming and the food delicious with generous portions. Dogs are allowed inside as well as the garden.

This is one amazing Oldie but Goldie pub filled up with interesting photos on over the walls and antiquity surroundings complete with outdoor seating and a smoking area. The food of which I had was the best steak & kidney pudding in my life and my misses had a huge pork succulent chop, both served with creamy mash and fresh veg, both were very plentiful and really delicious, hence the empty plates The service was fantastic including the young girl (well younger then me) was rushed off her feet, made you feel very welcomed and gave you and a busy restaurant 100%. This place was alight with happiness and that wasn't only due to a brilliant service, great food and good music but people were talking to each other and hardly to none mobile phones, people were polite with no weatherspoon type reckless regulars trying to get a cheap beer if you get my point and my favourite was this cozy corner with a log burner with two sofas that surrounded it to relax with a coffee to finish your meal. The toilets were lovely and clean and didn't smell at all which is just as important as the meal itself, the price was definitely worth it for what I paid which included two puddings and a couple of drinks. All in all I give this restaurant 10/10, worth the 45 min drive to get there were guaranteed return visit very soon.

I really enjoyed my Sunday roast. I had soup to start and then roast chicken with stuffing. The meat was tasty and the veg well cooked. I'm not a fan of cauliflower cheese with a roast, but that's personal preference. The building is old and character-full and the staff very pleasant. Definitely worth a visit.

Popped in for lunch after staying at Canon Hall Cottage for the weekend. Had three courses for £16, white bait starter, liver and bacon main, and Jaffa cake sponge for puds. The lady that served us was lovely, and the pub itself is beautiful. There's a surprisingly large outdoor space. Would come back if in the area :)

My husband & I stayed at the lovely Duke of William for 2 nights and had a wonderful stay. The staff, Adam in particular can't help enough and even went to the shops and got a bag of sweets for a friend as I was at a wedding most of the time so he did that for me. Amazing staff, lovely room, fabulous b/fast. The bar and restaurant was always full, incredibly welcoming for dogs and children as well.

The Sunday Roast was the best we've had in a long time. Jenny, who manages the restaurant was welcoming, professional, friendly and calm under the pressure of so many covers. The food was excellent and we will definately be returning.

Enjoyed a lovely hot drink and homemade brownie. The pub was buzzing and you can just tell its a hit with the locals as well as being a firm favourite "hidden gem". Loved the Christmas decorations outside too! Saw lots of regular events advertised so we're sure to come back!

Amazing restaurant and beautiful local produce market! The food at the restaurant was really fancy and absolutely delicious! Every meal was a real experience! They use local and seasonal ingredients sourced directly from the market. We ordered a 3-course meal which was definitely pricey but perfect for a celebration or special occasion. The staff a very attentive and very well organised. Booking a table is best as it gets very busy. The market is also very charming with fresh local veg, fish, meat, juice, cheese and other wonderful finds. Highly recommend and can't wait to be back!

Lovely spot for a chill lunch! Great atmosphere and packed with people. Had to queue for and hour but not too bad. Great food and nice staff!
Rating: 4 / 5
Lovely place to dine or shop from local businesses - all in close proximity to the train station. We seemed to have visited on a particularly busy day, as they only had one table available for walk-ins (us). The kitchen seemed a bit overwhelmed as our food took forever to arrive, and we ended up dining there for 2.5 hours. Something to keep in mind if you're on a tight schedule. The food was great! We really enjoyed the confit pork belly, and we thought the mint butter paired really well with the pink fir potatoes. Didn't realise the 'roast chicken' was a salad when we ordered, but it was still pretty good.

Lovely pub, very welcoming and a nice atmosphere. Staff were very attentive but lessened once it got busier. Forgot to ask if everything was ok after serving main meal BUT nothing was too much when we asked for anything. Food was excellent and very tasty. My family and I go out a lot for a Sunday Roast and although fairly pricey ( you get what you pay for ), I would give the whole experience 8.5 out of 10. I would visit again

A truly delightful experience. Staff were all so pleasant and professional that it would be unfair to single any one out for special praise. Food and drink both to a very high standard. Room very well equipped and tastefully decorated. Great location for exploring the surrounding area. Overall a very enjoyable stay and a place I am very happy to recommend.

Very good meal, the drink selection was good and the service was excellent. The star is lost as £16 for the roast although good quality was steep for the quantity of food received. The dessert selection on the Sunday menu was quite limited which meant none of our group had dessert. The Cajun chicken burger a member of our group had looked amazing and got a good review from him. I would choose this if I went on a Sunday again.

Lovely pub, open fire in the Restaurant. Liver Bacon Mash and Gravy cooked as it should be. Korean Prawns and French Fries pretty good too. Overall excellent.

We got there on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. I ve ordered a ribeye and it looked mostly like a fillet. It was ok, over cooked but I couldn’t send it back as we were in a hurry, triple cooked chips were dry and empty inside, too crunchy. Prawns were my favourite, they were lovely. The burger was lovely too with the french fries.. The waitress was so lovely and friendly, and the atmosphere was cosy and awesome.. I ll definitely go back

Great pub with a good choice of beer. Warm friendly atmosphere. Excellent food , good choices, and service. The staff are always welcoming. Clean tables, never sticky! And clean toilets, a rare find these days ! Pretty large garden with plenty of tables to sit out in the sun. Small children enclosed play area. Great stop after a long walk.
